One Player Advantage inside the 8 meter

This is a player-up drill that begins with a 3v2 then progresses to a 4V3 and then to a 5V4.

The drill set up

  • 2 attackers and 1 defender starts down low

  • A line of attackers is formed on one side of the coach and a line of defenders is formed on the other side of the coach.

The drill

  • The coach will throw the ball to the attacker

    • The defender will release when the coach throws the ball.  The defender will have a small advantage getting back on defense as the attacker has to pause to catch the ball.

    • The attacker will attempt to score in a 3v2 scenario

  • The drill stops when a goal is scored, ball is saved or the ball exits the 8 meter space.  Therefore if the ball falls on the ground, pick it up!

  • The previous group will stay and a new ball be thrown to the next attacker, releasing another defender creating a 4v3 scenario.

    • repeat the same process to continue into a 5v4

  • If you want to keep track of points

    • Attackers 1 point for the goal.

    • Defense gets 1 point for getting the ball out of 8

    • Goalie gets points for saves.
