Double Crease Pick Forcing a Defender Switch
This concept out of a 1-4-1 set is a great way to get the defense to switch a match up and get a player open for a shot close to the crease.
- Start with the ball at X
Start with the ball at X #6
As the ball gets sent to the top of the box through the wing the two players #4 & #5 on the opposite side move shoulder to shoulder on the opposite side of the crease.
When the ball gets to the top of the box the player at the top of the key #1 begins his dodge.
While the dodge is happening #3 curls under the double pick
This creates a problem for the goalie as the activity in front can make it hard for him to track the activity at the top of the box
This creates a bigger problem for the man defending #3 as he has to get through the pick while not interfering with his goalie.
Keep in mind this is happening while they are getting ready to slide to the dodger at the top of the box.
The most logical scenario from the defense is they will have to switch the match ups. This is why I love this concept if you are trying to get a certain player open.
If the dodger has a shot he should take it. Which may happen because the defense may not slide.
If he does not have a shot he should look to #3 curling around for a shot
If #3 has no shot he can pull it out or keep it moving to X
If this happens plays will resume out of 1-4-1 with your players having different defenders matched up on them
